MANILA BULLETIN Fashion: Trend Report: PFW SS14

First of all, I, now had a high respect of the editors, writers and reporters, its quite a tough job!   This is my first published article released last Nov 8, Fri under Manila Bulletin Fashion Section, and I'm quite surprised that its a FULL SPREAD, meaning 2 full, broadsheet pages!

Thanks alot to Ms Liza Ilarde of trusting me to cover in behalf of Manila Bulletin Fashion Team.  Yes, I got a Media Pass but this would not guarantee FRONT ROW seat in every show.  Front Row seats are usually reserved to the editors: magazine, newspaper, reporters, and other influential people in the fashion industry, like celebrities, personalities, buyers, VIP and family of the designers.  Buensalido and Runway Production Team ensure that each publishing is seated front row and well represented but, of course, first come, first serve basis, since its chaos when the door opens for the Media.  Yes, I still  wait and fall in line, because I want to be fair to the people who came there early.

Special thanks to Ms Meryl  Algenio of Buensalido and Associates Public Relations who secure a front row seat for me during the shows.  Congrats to the Runway Production and Buensalido Team!

Check out how the article goes, read on.

TREND REPORT: PFW SS14

This season’s trend is a showcase of comfort with a
playful mix of sexiness and abundance of colors,
leaving one yearning for what’s in and looking
forward to what’s next. A strong common language
was communicated through different perspectives as the
designers brought their own liberating ideas. Here’s our
best picks of the themes for this season:

1. Nearly Nude
Call it beige, skin-tone, or nude, it’s the new black for this season! The designers took the risk of turning the neutrals to something exciting—and it definitely paid off. One of the major looks that quickly emerged in the runway are from Albert Andrada, Ronald Mendoza, Jaki Peñalosa, and Raoul Ramirez.

2. Volume-on-Volume
Loose top and baggy pants in one ensemble? Yes, it works, and yes, this tandem gives sexy a new meaning. A timely and apt flair for our type of weather, this style is definitely wearable. The fabrics are light and soft, thus creating an airy feel when worn. Check out the collections of Jun Jun Cambe, Oz Go, Norman Noriega, and Vania Romoff.

3. Nouveau Sportswear
And then there’s the sporty look—a twist of boyish and relaxed ensembles. Designers who felt the urge of exploiting the athletics to vie for mass appeal are Martin Bautista, Richie Bondoc, Veejay Floresca, Santi Obcena, and Xernan Orticio.

4. Summer Sorbets
While some designers chose to play with the darker hues of the season,
some definitely took a delightful and refreshing route of experimenting with
pastels. You can definitely feel the excitement as pieces by Happy Andrada,
Ronaldo Arnaldo, Frederick Policarpio, and Randali Solomon were showed
off in the runway.

5. Cropped top Redux
Baring your midriff might have been a thing of the past. But, it has surely been slowly making its comeback. Designers Tina Daniac, Anthony Ramirez, Eric de los Santos played with cuts, shapes, and colors to communicate one thing: sexy abs is sensational!

6. All that Jazz
The bling. From beads, glitters and metals to lace, the designers played
around these materials to create texture as the new form of appliqué. The
addition of sheer, over and above the pieces, and the play of unique patterns
made each ensemble more interesting in the runway. All these are
cued from the opulent collection of Philipp Tampus, the dark romantics
of Bandoix Flores, to the mysteriously sexy mademoiselle look by Jerome
Salaya Ang.
